More about Home

Home is very important to all of us and there are few of us would choose to leave the home we have known and loved for many years. When the time comes to do so, it’s vitally important to be able to make the place we go to our home once more. At Aurora Care we do everything we possibly can to help you make Hendford Care Home your own home.
The room you choose is your room. If you want to bring your own furniture, we’ll remove ours to make room for yours. If you want to put up shelves, pictures and so on, you’re welcome to do so. We positively encourage you to make holes in the walls! It’s your space – you do as you choose with it.
Of course, our generously sized bed-sitting rooms are carefully designed with helpful features such as raised sockets and lowered light switches to make access easier. We’ve banned institutional furniture – everything’s domestic in character, though thoughtfully selected and if necessary modified to make it safe and suitable. For instance all our chests of draws and bedside cabinets have rounded corners to help avoid painful bumps. Every bed-sitting room has its own en suite with WC, basin, and assisted shower all on a wet room floor.

Our shared spaces are just as carefully planned – all seven of them - from the coffee lounge to the restaurant-like dining rooms to the computer lounge – all interior designed for enjoyment of every conceivable activity (or none at all if you prefer!).
Please don’t ask us what the visiting hours are – there aren’t any. It your home – your visitors come and go as you please. If your relatives would like to take a meal with you, just let us know the day before. There’s no charge – it’s entirely complimentary. And by the way, telephone calls are normally free of charge at Hendford Care Home as well.
But when all said and done, what makes home home, is how you’re treated there. That’s why we’re very choosy indeed about the people we employ. Not everyone at Hendford Care Home starts out as an experienced person – some gain their experience with us and many never leave us. But what we do ensure is that everyone from the most junior to the most senior shares a vocation to care, to give and to love. It’s what makes us who we are.
